So what about American film making art? You know, this is the country that did give us after all: American Pie all the way up to a wedding sequel. 
 
I think Brian De Palma is the most serious contender for approaching high art in film making. In fact apparently he has been tagged

Mind you, I didnt need Wik to tell me that...it was my very own thought after seeing Femme Fatale for the first time 
 
And maybe we could tag Michael Mann the nouveau artist of the 21st century or the American auteur but doubt if he wold really appreciate it (lol) 
 
And btw, not sure if you were aware but Wik has some pretty choice quotes of Godard
