Computer technology, as you say, \"has created a new form of literacy,\" or perhaps a-literacy, and, as you further say, \"we\'re going to have to deal with it, for better or worse.\" It\'s the \"worse\" part that worries me.

The more than half of the U.S. population that thinks God created human beings in their present form within a relatively recent past all have computers and could all click on to an evolution website and learn that they\'re wrong. But they don\'t. Or if they do click on the evolution website they don\'t believe it because of the state of their minds.

Now comes the \"worse\" part. They not only fail to learn about evolution (i.e., remain \"neutrally\" ignorant), they use their computers to watch YouTube\'s version of \"America\'s Funniest Videos.\" So, even though the population has more technological access to information, knowledge and even wisdom, people continue not to know much about history, government, geography or how to write.

That\'s not a condition that can be remedied with a mere technological fix. Indeed, the fix only seems to make it worse.
