About: Jean Baird
- Profile:
- Jean Baird was the founder and publisher of In 2 Print, a national arts and literary magazine that published work by high school students. Before that she had been an English professor for many years. She has also worked as program director for an arts facility, managing editor for business publications, consultant for non-profit organizations, and creative director of Canada Book Week for the Writers Trust of Canada. Most recently she completed a BC-based project developed from a report she wrote for the Canada Council about the use of Canadian literature in secondary schools. The project was successful in changing the curriculum in BC schools to mandate CanLit. In 2008 she founded The Al Purdy A-frame Trust to purchase and preserve the poet's famous home and run it as a writer in residence program. The Heart Does Break: Canadian Writers on Grief and Mourning, co-edited with George Bowering will be published fall 2009 by Random House
